Coffeehouse & Blues

A relaxing and entertaining evening of blues, folk or jazz is a great way to unwind at the end of the week! The Adair Coffee House features musicians from Montreal and surrounding area, occasionally from further away. (Last year musicians came fronm Vermont & Ohio.) The opening set starts at 8pm.

It takes place on the last Friday of every month in Adair Hall, 24 Maple Ave., Ste. Anne de Bellevue (adjoining Union Church). Coffee, tea, soft drinks & juice available, and a delicious array of cakes. Admission is $10 at the door.

These photographs were taken without flash, using available light only. Some show great movement, something I love to try & capture in a performance.

Deborah's work sings of the exotic; her Brazilian Sketchbook is filled with Orchids of delicate beauty, of fruits and seeds and other surprises from the Brazilian landscape. Her work is rich and textured, filled with the vibrant colours of the area.
At her exhibitions she finds that the sketchbook journals she has kept over her time in Brazil capture much attention and curiosity.

We have been following this special Montreal Band for almost 3 decades, and are truly lucky to have enjoyed so many of their live performances, especially the past few years, as well as cds and a vinyl record... Their music is always fresh and ranges from simplistic bare-bones approach (simple, not easy) to full tilt motion that takes on a life of it's own, yet is never 'over the top'. Catch them live if you are able, or look for their music online.

From their website; The band's reputation as one of the best blues and folk-blues ensembles in Canada has long been established. Over the past twenty five -plus years the Stephen Barry Band has had the privilege of playing with such blues legends as John Lee Hooker, Bo Diddley, Big Moose Walker, Pinetop Perkins, Buddy Guy, Hubert Sumlin, Magic Slim, Eddie Kirkland, Nappy Brown, John Hammond Jr., and Big Mama Thornton, whom they toured with for three plus years. Besides their regular concert, the Stephen Barry Band is offering their "Blues Anthology", a workshop on its history . Beginning with its folk roots in the Mississippi delta through its journey north, the band tells the story of its development and diversification. From New Orleans up to Memphis, St. Louis, Kansas City and Chicago journey with the band on this rich tour of this very special music.

Bark Lake

Bark Lake ...

When we were young in the 40s - 60s, my brothers & sister & I were truly lucky to live here in the summer months and between times throughout the year, and have such an idyllic place imprinted into our sense of place & who we are, what we cherish. The majority of the lake still has no road access, hydro, cell phones are still a new acquisition and their ringing out of place. All in all, I think our grandparents would be happy to know it hasn't changed hugely since their arrival there in 1931. I hope we can safeguard it from today's ultra-fast paced, technology-based world where people tend to overlook the simple things. I know change is inevitable, but I hope the changes will be positive ones.

Polaroid Transfers

Within the past decade, I have discovered Polaroid Transfers, emulsion transfers, negative scans. I have also begun experimenting with combinations of these, and altering and adding digital elements as well.
